Summer 09 Trends from Passionate About Vintage

The Passionate About Vintage jewellery collection brings together a love of all things vintage. Each unique hand crafted piece is made from hand sourced rare vintage art glass beads and ornate floral brass filigrees dating from the 1920’s – 1950’s – creating a truly unique brand.

The scarcity of Vintage beads, means that each piece at Passionate About Vintage is unique or limited edition. This means that each necklace, bracelet or pair of earrings is slightly different.

The summer 09 collection sees wonderful examples of Venetian Millefiori, fabulous hand made opalescent foil beads from Japan, Baroque Pearls from Italy, West German Glass and Bohemian glass beads from the Czech Republic.

Nature is Awakened
The summer 09 collection returns to femininity through flowers and their colours adding a sense of beauty and elegance. The mix of classic shapes of vintage glass beads in classic English Rose hues of red and fuchsia are enriched by an ornate range of gold filigree leaf and flower details seen on necklaces, earrings and bracelets. Nature is awakened and the collection blooms with colour.

New Innocence
Pure washed out romance was big on the catwalks and this season, jewellery takes on a more sensual and innocent feel. Through barely there shades of colour, transparent glass and opal gems and rare ornate enamelled hearts, a sense of softness and simplicity is added to the jewellery. Accessorise this summer’s tumbling ruffles, lingerie inspired camisoles and sumptuous sheer fabrics with the delicate Cascade Earrings and adorn wrists with the Gold Filigree and Enamel Heart Bracelet. Summer Brides
Both vibrant and muted colours are seen throughout the bridal collection at Passionate About Vintage. Happy New Year!

I'm back after a not very relaxing Christmas. I have hoped to be quietly preparing for my next show, Collections. My apendix however had other plans, nevermind.

New Bridal Jewellery

I'm working hard at the moment on my new Bridal jewellery, here's a picture of my "White Queen Bridal Collier."

This magnificent Bridal Collier is packed with the crème de la crème of Vintage Art Glass, all the rarest and most collectable Vintage beads can be found here!

Everything is clustered around a Vintage White Guilloche enamel centerpeice. The Vintage Opal glass beads are my absolute favourites, they are extremely rare and hard to find, they were made in occupied Japan, c.1940. I bought these from a Vintage bead dealer friend of mine who has had them in her personnal stash for many years, they were originally salesman's samples and came to me in their original box, with the orignal tags still attached.

There are also Vintage Swarovski crystal rhinestone beadballs, Vintage Opal Moonstone rhinestones, Vintage faceted White Givre Crystals and Vintage Japanese Baroque faux Pearls.

After meeting the lovely Miss C through a shared love of all things Vintage on MySpace I was invited to the first Damsels in Distress Vintage Fashion Fair at the Positively 4th Street Bar:

This is such a great Vintage location, it must be a well kept secret that only locals know about. Stepping inside you’re immediately sent back in time, to New York in the 20’s. The décor is all is Art Deco with wood panelling and Tiffany style dragonfly lampshades, and all set to a background of old black and white films, retro sounds and little homemade cupcakes.

Collector's Report on P&A Antiques Vintage Fashion Fair

Sunday April 13th

There were at least 3 Vintage fairs going on this Sunday, plus the London marathon, so London was buzzing. I couldn’t decide between FROCK ME! Ally Pally and the P&A Antiques Fair. But then I got a half price ticket emailed to me by P&A Antiques, so my decision was made for me. This is why it’s always a good idea to visit the organiser’s websites and get on their mailing lists! You never know what they might send you.

I didn’t regret my choice, despite the rain I trekked to Hammersmith and really enjoyed myself. You never know what you’re going to see and who you’re going to meet. I met some very knowledgeable dealers this week. Including the lovely Caroline Henney, we had a really nice chat about the Antique Czech brooch I had just bought; talking to dealers is great because you learn so much. Here’s what I bought:

• Gorgeous c.1900-1920 Bohemian Brass filigree and multi coloured stone brooch. £18.

• A wonderful little French beaded bag, all white and cream, from Marlene, £23. I have one made by the same company already, which I bought in a little shop in Camden Passage, so I think they must be cousins! The moment I saw it I knew the manufacturer was the same and I had to have it!

• A Blue foil necklace and Opera length stand of Cognac coloured Venetian Sommerso beads, both from Lorna Daniels, £38.

• A sweet little Pink Marvella Art glass necklace from Gillian McCormack, £7.

• A yummy multicoloured Art glass beaded necklace from the lovely Emma Ionides and her Dad George, £10. Check out her website on : www.hatsoff2u.co.uk

Collector’s Report on Anita’s Vintage Fashion Fair
At the 20th Century Theatre Sunday 16th of March 2008

AVFF fairs are normally held 6 times a year at Battersea Arts Centre ( Lavender Hill, London, SW11 5NT.) However at the moment they are holding the fairs at the 20th Century Theatre in Westbourne Grove. This is a much smaller venue; there are normally approx 65 stalls.

Whenever I go to a Vintage fair I am always on the look out for jewellery, that’s my weakness. So for me this fair was a little disappointing. Not enough jewellery for my tastes. However, having said that if you are a textile artist, fashion designer, fashion student or collect buttons & trimmings then this is the fair for you! There were vintage buttons, trimming, beaded fragments, ribbons and fabric scraps galore.

Here’s what I bought:

3 strand Blue/White swirled Art glass beads necklace £20

Collector’s Report on FROCK ME!

Vintage Fashion Fair at Chelsea Town Hall Sunday 24^th Feb

I love going to Vintage fairs, buying online doesn’t compare to wandering through a hall full of stalls laden with goodies. For me it’s all about talking to the dealers, haggling and admiring all the beautiful things on offer.

FROCK ME! Is a great fair to wander round on a Sunday afternoon, come early if your local for first pick, but if you cant don’t worry. I managed to pick up some great pieces even at 2 o’clock in the afternoon.

Try to go with a budget in mind, if you go a little bit over its not the end of the world, but it will help you to be more aware of how much you’re spending before your grocery money miraculously disappears.

Here’s what I bought:

Ivory coloured Celluloid Chrysanthemum bangle £25 (always wanted one of these!) & 5x Victorian enamel buttons £25 from Sally Forster.
Dainty 1930’s multi coloured rhinestone necklace from Flora and Brian Hicks for £12.
Antique lace collar £20 and an opera length 1950’s Italian pastel opal glass beads from Rita for £25 (my favourite purchase of the day! And best buy!)
Vintage white/blue beaded Givre glass necklace £5.
